The Role

Your Mission
Reporting to the Job Superintendent or Shop Foreman you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy machinery used at your assigned construction site. You will be responsible for keeping the equipment running and available. When equipment breaks, you must quickly troubleshoot, ascertain the problem, and make repairs ensuring crew members can get back to work quickly.

Your Role Today, Tomorrow and into the Future
Jobs vary in size and could be six months or more in length. Most of our work is won via bids, so while we are usually very busy, we don’t know where you will be needed next. Flexibility is crucial.

You will serve as the sole mechanic at your assigned sites, so you must enjoy troubleshooting and working on a lot of different equipment. You’ll spend approximately 50% of your time on PM duties, completing the PM checklist, doing oil changes, fueling vehicles (which requires hazmat certification) and more. The other 50% will be spent on repairs, both minor and major. There’s a lot of diversity in the equipment and the work. For example, you may need to troubleshoot machine fault codes, you may need to quickly replace a hose . . . you might work on a belly dump truck, a generator or repair a plate compactor . . . whatever is required. As the onsite mechanic, you will manage the repairs yourself, or when extensive repairs are needed, your efforts may be supplemented by dealer field technicians. If there is downtime, you might drive a water truck or help in another way.

Our Fleet Equipment
We maintain a significant fleet of owned and leased equipment including dozers from D6N’s to D11R’s, large off-road dump trucks, scrapers, excavators, graders, compactors, rock drills, cranes, lowboys, belly dumps, flatbed trucks, tractors, water trucks and wagons, maintenance, and fuel trucks, light plants, pumps, generators and all small support tools.

Where You'll Stay
Depending upon the project, we may lease land nearby and create a DeAtleyville -- a place where we will place our utility trailer to provide water and electricity to the crew for parking their campers or setup tents where they will live during their downtime. Some crew members choose to stay in motels/hotels. In some cases where a DeAtleyville location is not available, employees may be supplemented with a lodging allowance (project dependent).

Pictured: Lewistown Southeast project, Lewistown, Montana. The work consisted of 5 miles of roadway reconstruction. Major items included 125,000 cubic yards of excavation, 40,000 cubic yards of special borrow, 22,000 cubic yards of cement treated base, 4,000 cubic yards of base course, 20,000 tons of asphalt plant mix, 1,500 square yards of MSE wall, 450 square yards of soil nail wall, 4,400 square feet of sheet pile wall, and installation of 2 reinforced soil slopes. Completed 2016.
